Aurora Solar, founded in 2013, is the platform most US residential installers compare everything else to: remote design on LiDAR, sales proposals with financing, contracts, AI roof models, and plan sets for permitting, with HelioScope for commercial work. It publishes per-user prices and runs both a self-serve signup and a demo path.
Where Aurora is ahead
- Residential design accuracy and validation: NREL-validated shading, LiDAR, AI roof models, NEC validation reports, and a plan-set service that quotes a first-time approval rate for US jurisdictions. Solset AI traces from satellite imagery with AI assistance, computes shading per module, and produces SLD and structural reports, but it has no US permitting product.
- Financing and contracts inside the proposal: integrations with the major US lenders and e-signature contracts. Solset AI records a customer’s acceptance on a public quotation link but does not embed lender offers.
- Proof: a logo wall, nine case studies with their own metrics, a changelog, a public API, a trust centre and a G2 profile with more than a hundred reviews.
- Scale and support: an annual summit, a content library, a help centre and regional sites.
Where Solset AI is ahead
- Scope: Aurora stops at the signed contract and the permit. Procurement, inventory, crews, site updates, invoices, receivables, vendor bills, service contracts and AMC renewals are not Aurora products. In Solset AI they are the same record as the design.
- Pricing model: per workspace with seat add-ons, a free plan with no expiry, and pay-per-design credits, instead of a per-user monthly price.
- Geography: a workspace can be in any country and bills in dollars or rupees; Indian tax and subsidy rules switch on only for Indian workspaces. Aurora’s product is built around US permitting and financing.
- Commercial and ground-mount structure: table-by-table frames, wind loads, a solved analysis and STAAD export, in the same tool as the rooftop design.
Pricing, side by side
Aurora publishes per-user pricing: Basic at $159 per user per month (or $135 per user per month billed annually), Premium at $259 per user per month ($220 annually), and a custom Enterprise tier; on-demand site models start at $9.99 and plan sets are priced separately. No free trial is mentioned. Figures are from the competitor’s own website, read on 8 October 2026; check their pricing page before relying on them.
Solset AI prices per workspace, not per user: a plan covers the company, extra seats are an add-on, and the Free plan never expires and needs no card. Subscriptions are billed in rupees or dollars, and the Design Studio can also be used one roof at a time with pay-per-design credits. Every figure is on the plans page, where it is read from the live catalogue rather than typed into a blog post.
Who should choose which
If you sell residential solar in the United States and your pipeline depends on lender integrations and permit plan sets, Aurora is the incumbent for a reason. If you are an EPC anywhere else, or a US company whose pain is the build and the books rather than the sale, Solset AI runs the whole job for a company price, and you can start on the free plan today.
If Aurora Solar fits the way you sell, use it; the point of this post is that you can decide from the facts. If the job after the proposal is where your margin leaks, start a free Solset workspace, add one real enquiry and take it to a quotation. Our other comparisons are on the compare page.
